What is Business Manager?

Facebook Business Manager (officially part of Meta Business Suite) is a tool for managing your company's Facebook assets in one place.

The “assets” here include:

  • Facebook Page
  • Instagram business account
  • WhatsApp Business Account
  • Meta App (for developers)
  • Ad accounts
  • Pixels, catalogs, and more

It also manages who can access those assets and with what permissions.

Why do you need it? (Can't I just use a personal FB account?)

Technically, you can create a Page with just a personal Facebook account. But for a clinic that is run by several people and uses business features like ads and messaging, Business Manager is effectively a must.

1. Separation of ownership

If the director's personal FB account is the Page owner, the moment that account is hacked or deactivated, the clinic's Page is lost along with it. Making Business Manager “own” the Page keeps it separate from any personal account.

2. Staff permission management

Instead of granting and revoking Page permissions one by one as staff join and leave, you add and remove them all at once from the People menu in Business Manager.

3. The unit for Business Verification

Features where Meta requires a “verified business” — such as WhatsApp or App Review — are reviewed only at the Business Manager level. You cannot get in with a personal account alone.

4. The unit for Coauths CRM integration

Meta App, WABA (WhatsApp Business Account), Pages — every object we connect to the CRM must live inside Business Manager.

Business Manager vs. Facebook Page — are they different?

Yes, they are completely different concepts. This is the most common point of confusion.

A Page is the “clinic profile” that patients actually see — where they like, view posts, and send messages.

Business Manager is the back office that owns and manages that Page. Patients never see it.

By analogy, the Page is the “store,” and Business Manager is the “company that legally owns the store.”

How to create one

  1. Go to business.facebook.com
  2. Log in with your own personal Facebook account (no need to create a separate company account)
  3. Click Create Account at the top right
  4. Enter your information:
    • Business name: the clinic's official name (matching the business registration certificate)
    • Your name
    • Work email: preferably an email on the clinic's domain
  5. Click the verification link sent to your email → Business Manager is created

💡 Right after you create it, it is empty. As the next step, go to Business Settings → Accounts → Pages and Add the clinic's Page. If the Page already exists, choose “Add a Page” → enter the Page URL. If not, choose “Create a new Page”.

Is it free?

Yes, Business Manager itself is free. Meta makes money from ad spend or pay-as-you-go WhatsApp messaging.

When costs do arise:

  • Running ads (ad spend)
  • WhatsApp business messages — pay-as-you-go after 1,000 per month

Running a Page, sending and receiving on Messenger, and Instagram DMs are free.

Frequently asked questions

Q. Can I create one without a personal FB account?

No. Business Manager is always linked to a personal Facebook account. If you create a fake account, Meta will detect it and suspend it, so create it with the owner's real-name account.

Q. Can one person have multiple Business Managers?

Yes, that is possible. However, since Business Verification can only be done once per business, it is best to keep just one Business Manager per clinic (legal entity).

Q. I already have a Page but no Business Manager. Will the Page disappear?

No. The Page stays as is and is simply transferred (Added) into Business Manager. Followers, posts, and likes are all kept.

Q. What do I do next after creating it?

Proceed in this order:

  1. Add the Page (the last step in “How to create one” on this page)
  2. Start Business Verification (begins a 1–7 day wait)
  3. Create a Meta App
  4. Proceed with the main installation steps in the Meta connection guide
