TikTok Direct Messaging Connection Guide

Estimated time: about 10 minutes (if you already have a TikTok Business account)

Requirement
TikTok Business account
Connection method
"Connect with TikTok" button (OAuth)
Conversation type
Direct Messaging Ads only
Korea availability
Beta varies by region (backup plan recommended)

Prerequisites

  • TikTok For Business Advertiser account
  • Ability to sign in to that account with admin permissions
  • A Direct Messaging destination ad campaign for receiving messages (regular DMs are not delivered via API)
Developer tasks such as app registration, Messaging API permission review, and Webhook setup are all handled by Coauths. The clinic only needs to prepare the Business account and complete the connection steps below.

Setup steps

1

Prepare a TikTok Business account (skip if you already have one)

Est. time: 30 min

If you are already running TikTok ads, you can skip this step and go straight to step 2.

  1. business.tiktok.comCreate Now
  2. We recommend signing up with a corporate email (building on top of a personal TikTok account makes transferring permissions cumbersome when the operator changes)
  3. Enter Advertiser information:
    • Business name: legal entity name (matching your business registration)
    • Country/Region: country of operation
    • Industry: Healthcare & Medical → Beauty / Cosmetic Procedures
    • Business website: clinic website (if none, an IG/Facebook page URL also works)

2

Start connecting the TikTok channel in CRM

Est. time: 2 min

From here on, everything is done inside the CRM.

  1. Log in to CRM → Settings → Channels → go to the “Connect channel” page
  2. Click the “Connect channel” button on the TikTok card
  3. Select the Branch to connect → the connection form opens

3

"Connect with TikTok" — approve in the popup

Est. time: 3 min
  1. In the connection form, click the “Connect with TikTok” button → the TikTok login popup opens
  2. Log in as a Business account admin
  3. Approve the permissions
💡 No developer tasks such as app registration or Messaging API permission review are needed. Coauths handles them.

4

Return to CRM + confirm the connection

Est. time: 5 min
  1. Once approval is complete, you are automatically returned to CRM and the channel card shows “Connected”
  2. When a message a customer sent through a Direct Messaging ad arrives in the CRM inbox, the integration is ✅ complete
💡 Everyday DMs that regular TikTok users send to a business account cannot be received via API. Only conversations from a Direct Messaging destination ad campaign enter the inbox. If the connection shows an error, just reconnect using the “Reconnect” button on the channel card.

Common issues

The “Connect with TikTok” popup does not open

Browser popup blocking is the most common cause. Allow popups via the icon in the address bar and try again.

Permission error shown in the popup

Check that the account you logged in with is an admin of the TikTok Business (advertiser) account. Personal accounts cannot connect. If the problem persists, contact your Coauths representative.

Regular DMs do not arrive in the inbox

TikTok does not expose regular DMs via API. Only conversations from Direct Messaging destination ad campaigns are received. If you need to handle general inquiries, consider the backup plan of setting the ad destination to LINE/Messenger/WhatsApp.

Messaging does not work in Korea

TikTok messaging runs as a per-country beta, and Korea has periods of restricted availability. Backup plan: set TikTok ad destination to LINE/Messenger/WhatsApp — messages then arrive naturally via those channels in CRM.

Blocked by medical advertising policy

TikTok medical/beauty ad policy: Korea and Japan strictly limit before/after photos, pain descriptions, and price displays. Vietnam and Thailand are more permissive. Have a marketing reviewer pre-check.
